Making Music is like

Cooking Food

Cooking Up Quality Records

Recording music and cooking a recipe follow a similar process. It’s important to have the right ingredients, a functional kitchen, and an expert chef to prepare the delicious meal. The idea behind Red Bean Recording is to prepare, mix, and cook up quality music records that feed the soul; much like how creole chefs feed the soul through cooking red beans and rice to the locals in Louisiana. A great meal is meant to be shared with others—just like your music.

Red Beans and Rice

In Louisiana, there’s a famous dish called red beans and rice. Not only is it a fan favorite among the locals, but it’s also commonly made by many creole chefs. As a native to Louisiana, John Scalia, aptly named his music studio Red Bean Recording, as a nod to his southern roots. It was there that he developed not only a passionate love for music, but also a love for creole cooking.

“Red Beans & Rice is a dish that my Louisiana family has always cooked. It’s a favorite. It takes a while to prepare and make it taste “right”. A raw, dry red bean is hard and tasteless, but soak it in salted water overnight, and cook it all day in a rue of spice, herbs, green peppers, diced tomatoes, and pork…… WOO CHER!!! ”

-John Scalia, Studio Owner & Musician

John Scalia was born and raised in Louisiana. As a working musician over the past 30 years, John has toured with his band, John Scalia and The Dirty Word, all over the country and parts of the world. John has extensive experience recording, producing, and playing live music. In addition to his music career, he is dedicated to helping other music artist on their journey. John shares “ I love it when an artist lets their guard down.” His goal is to help artists feel comfortable enough to take risks in their music career.
